David Kav: Blog

Turning The Page

As 2012 winds down to a close, I take a moment to reflect on what has been one of the most eventful years of my life. As I have stated before in previous writings, I am brought to the realization from my bandmate and good friend, Petar Kecenovici earlier this year:

"Remember, David, life is about balance. For every good, there's something bad. And vice versa. EVERYTHING lives and goes by this."

I must say - this year has proven this paradigm to be true. So, when I think about it, this year has been ALL good - in a way. Truly. And, when I look back, 2012 has been an exceptional year. Were there tribulations? Yes. Of course. Who doesn't have them? Nonetheless, would I change anything that has happened to me this year?

Not a thing.

For those whom I've encountered this year (both old friends and new friends,) those whom I've gained, those whom we've lost, those who I've collaborated with, those who I've talked with, hung out with, loved, laughed with, traveled with and those [...]

PREFACE: LONG BLOG. The main idea of this blog is true, lasting joy and peace of mind. This is my search on a daily basis… and will be until the day I die. I touch upon this at the end as well.

“I've been tryin' to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about...forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore”

-Don Henley from “The Heart Of The Matter”

What fuels us to do anything? Have you actually taken the time to ask yourself this? I mean REALLY ask yourself this question? For some of us, it’s our family. For some of us, it’s our loved ones, our friends, our respective careers, our dreams. I truly know (from my personal experience) that, at times, we can get so wrapped up in our goals that we get lost in the drama that we mistake for life that we forget to ask ourselves, [...]

This is the second day in a row that I haven't done Morning Pages. This is really not like me at all. I went to bed at 6:30AM. I ended up talking to a DJ in North Carolina about my music, about her on-line radio show. In short, I was networking and it was very unexpected. Considering the fact that she has over 2000 (almost 3K friends,) the fact that she posted my music and links on her wall was quite flattering. However, we peeled ourselves away when we noticed the time. I thought I had gotten enough sleep. My body, on the other hand, had other thoughts on my sleep for the past two days. I barely got up at 1:55pm. Got my cereal, vitamin, yogurt and coffee (2 cups,) got dressed, 7-Eleven run, rolled [...]

No Morning Pages today. It MUST be a Friday thing. That and/or my horrible sleeping habit (which I like - how's that for insanity) that had me going to bed at 5:45AM and having me wake up at 11:20AM made me really want to grab all of the minutes of sleep that I can grab. I'll go with a bit of both in this case. :) Woke up, grabbed breakfast, vitamin, got dressed, grabbed my acoustic guitar and my bookbag (with the changes of socks inside,) grabbed a cab and raced over to Potbelly for my 12 to 2pm shift. I got to my post and started playing around 12:07pm. I stopped a little before 2pm to make sure that I had time to grab a veggie sandwich (really wanted to stick to the "no meat" routine today,) chips. [...]

My body must've REALLY been tired. I went to bed the night before at 4:30AM. I spent the evening listening to ALL of the tracks that I had written and recorded for FAWM (February Album Writing Month.) If you go to the site now, it states "FAWM OVER - WE WIN!!!" Funny - but yes. It sure does feel that way. And, of course, my favorite songs overall have changed. I favorited 5 of them (we're only supposed to favor 2 or 3. Couldn't help it. There were great aspects about ALL of them.)
I woke up today - with the help of Beth Ann - at 2:30pm. Beth Ann crawled back into bed with me after her "Little Red" show this morning. I was SO tired when she came back in around 1 or 1:30pm. Can't remember what time [...]
